How does A.C. Electric Generators Work? How it is A.C.?
- R1 and R2 = Slip Rings whose Inner Side is connected to axle and rings are connected to coil.
- B1 and B2 = Carbon Brushes which Just slip on R1 and R2.
Note: Coil is connected to rings not the brushes.
Working:
When Axle is Rotated coil such that coil AB moves upward CD towards downward.So, Force of Direction for AB is up and for CD is down.
Direction of Magnetic Field is Always from north pole to south pole.
Now see coil AB and then we together notice that: According to Fleming's right hand rule, we conclude that induced current direction is from A to B.
Now see coil CD and then we together notice that: According to Fleming's right hand rule, we conclude that induced current direction is from C to D.
Induced electrical energy is setup in coil ABCD and passes the conducting wire through B1 and B2.
And finally Mechanical Energy is converted into electrical energy.
But a question arises;
when ABCD does it half rotation then direction of current in CD arm is from D to C and in AB arm is from B to A.
AB is connected to R1.
CD is connected to R2.
As current is flowing from D to C to B to A. So direction of current in is reversed in wire connected to B1 and B2.
Current direction reverses at every half rotation i.e. at T/2.Hence, It's A.C. Generator.
